Leprosy Building Project
One of the projects supported by the Trust is Shanthi Gramam. This is a residential home for people who have had leprosy. Often shunned by their families, Shanti Gramam provides a homely environment for these vulnerable people.
The Trust funds monthly feeding costs and are looking to improve living conditions in the long term, by fundraising to undertake a complete renovation project.
Over the years the buildings and facilities at Shanthi Gramam have deteriorated significantly.
During our most recent visit in 2022, we saw the wonderful new dining hall and homes that have already been built. It was amazing to see the residents enjoying their new environment, however, there is still more work to be done!
There is urgent need to rebuild 4 more homes for patients that are living in desperate conditions with asbestos roofs and walls infested with termites. It takes 45 days to build a home and I have pledged to re-home Jaja, (a resident who is hearing impaired), by Christmas.
